What is MPL-TL?
MPL-TL
is the active ingredient of an approved topical preparation used for the temporary relief of muscular and joint pain. It has been shown in multiple clinical trials to act as a rapid and effective topical analgesic and anti-inflammatory agent, however more recent evidence points to an additional strong tissue reparation influence in acute and chronic muscular skeletal injuries.
How does this pain medication work?
MPL-TL is still in clinical trials but all evidence at this points to it being effective on three levels: it appears to act as an analgesic by blocking the specific nerve-receptors, it appears to inhibit side effects by acting as a scavenger of nitric oxide and it appears to promote regeneration of tissue and healing of ligaments and skin tissue by acting as inducible nitric oxide donator.
How is this drug different from aspirin or morphine?
MPL-TL is different from aspirin and aspirin-like drugs in several ways. First, it is applied topically so it does not go into the stomach and flood the entire system with a drug. A significant property of MPL-TL is its localized effect and its lack of systemic actions. It is readily absorbed into the skin and diffuses rapidly into the immediate surrounding tissues. While its half-life is yet to be defined in vivo, there is little evidence to support any systemic drug interaction or remote effects.
Because it is applied through the skin right at the point of pain it gives almost instantaneous relief right where it is needed and does not have the gastric and other side effects that are experienced with aspirin and similar products. Morphine is a narcotic and therefore addictive. It is only to be used infrequently, with extreme pain and under a doctor's careful guidance.
Is MPL-TL effective for all types of pain?
No – unfortunately there is not yet anything that is effective for all types of pain. MPL-TL is effective to treat the type of pain that is generally treated with over-the-counter drugs and topical applications. MPL-TL is completely different from any of the topical compounds currently on the market. Other products mainly work by stimulating the circulation in the area of application and letting nature take its course. MPL-TL goes directly through the skin and blocks the nerve receptors that are causing the pain while promoting healing.
MPL-TL, when used as a topical cream, appears to be effective in relieving the pain of tension head-ache and of certain acute and recurrent musculoskeletal pains. A small amount rubbed into the temples and nape of the neck, in the case of headache, or over the affect area in the case of musculoskeletal pain, appears to bring significant relief within seconds. When used clinically, pain relief appears to commence in as little as 30 seconds.
Does MPL-TL have any side-effects?
MPL-TL is part of a parent compound that has been extensively tested in humans for two decades and, to-date, no negative side effects have been discovered. Additional research is in process to determine exactly what it is that makes MPL-TL work so effectively and, of course, all efforts will be made to explore any further potential side effects. But with 20+ years of positive results, we are confident that MPL-TL is safe, effective and free of side-effects.
Who invented MPL-TL?
MPL-TL was created by the MPL medical team nearly 2 decades ago, at a time when proteomics and peptide therapeutics were at an early stage of development. The products that resulted were possibly mis-directed, however clinical trials showed that they delivered real and quantifiable benefits in a safe and side-effect free manner. MPL-TL has now moved on and is emerging as an important new active ingredient that delivers needed benefits across a range of common and debilitating disorders and injuries. It is manufactured in a manner that provides extraordinary precision in amino-acid sequencing and this alone may yet prove to be of immense value. MPL-TL's apparent side-effect-free status and low drug interaction profile may make it ideally suited to a range of conditions and disorders for which topical NSAIDs are contraindicated.
How do I buy your stock? Can I get it directly from you and is there a minimum number of shares I can buy?
As MPL is a publicly traded company, all shares must be purchased through a Registered Broker Dealer. Your regular broker will be able to assist you with this purchase. The minimum number of shares you can purchase is determined by your individual brokerage firm. See Investor Information.

What are the next steps for the company?
MPL's primary, general objectives are to:
• Refine and prove-up the first completely new and different class of analgesic in several decades
(in progress).
• Gain American regulatory and marketing approval
• Gain Australian and European regulatory approval
• Manufacture the new drug as a generic ingredient
See Next Steps for more details.
How will MPL market MPL-TL once it is ready to market?
MPL-TL will be developed primarily as a generic ingredient – a key active ingredient . In this form, it will be sold to external formulators for incorporation into thousands of new analgesic products for which there is a ready path to market and a willing market place – in the same way aspirin or ibuprofen are used as key active ingredients.
MPL has targeted 4 products for early release and may elect to retain other specific products or applications and commercialize those directly, although the Board of Directors will make that decision at an appropriate time.
The company will also be actively exploring MPL-TL as a potential oral or even injectable analgesic, although the major focus for the first 3 to 5 years will be to establish a clear market lead in the area of topical analgesics.
Does MPL have a patent for MPL-TL?
Molecular Pharmacology Limited, in cooperation with its scientific partner, announced in February 2005 that it had lodged completed patent specification in the USA and provisional specification in Australia for its propriety analgesic and anti-inflammatory compound, MPL-TL. The lodgement of a US Specification in Completion allows the company to seek examination in the USA earlier than would otherwise be the case. The patents seek to provide broad and early protection for the company's analgesic and anti-inflammatory intellectual property. The parallel lodgement in Australia provides the company with a single priority date in both the USA and PCT countries. The company has adopted this two-part patent strategy to support its international market potential.
